Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic individual with either dual CCT ICM in anaesthetics or a medical speciality or single CCT in ICM as a replacement for a retiring colleague. You will join our team of currently 8 ICM Consultants to enable us to deliver the highest quality Intensive Care Medicine.

We are currently offering  a Recruitment & Retention premia for this post –

*In addition to your salary, we are offering a 30% Retention Premium on your basic salary and 60% premium time for hours worked:

    • Monday to Friday 1900 – 0700
    • All hours worked on Bank Holidays
    • All hours worked on Saturdays and Sundays

*subject to annual review (maximum of 4 years duration)

Main duties of the job

The critical care directorate has funding for 16 beds. The case mix of patients is variable, reflecting the local tertiary services and the health needs of the local and visiting population. A further 20 cardiothoracic intensive care beds are managed by the cardiothoracic department.

Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC and be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of attaining CCT at date of interview.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion within 6 months of interview date
  • Full registration with the GMC
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Broad experience in the management of all aspects of Intensive Care Medicine
Desirable criteria
  • FFICM, EDIC or equivalent
  • Computer and IT skills Educational qualification or working towards.

  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
  • Effective teaching skills
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload and to delegate responsibility and supervise staff.
