Job overview

An exciting post has become available for a qualified ACP on our Surgical Assessment Unit and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)Unit. We are looking to appoint a dynamic enthusiastic practitioner into this post to help us in delivering our goal of delivering outstanding care and treatment to the community of Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde. 

The successful candidate will join our established team of ACPs and will work long side the large MDT in delivering care across the acute  surgical l footprint. This post holder will work within the 4 pillars of advanced practice to drive our services forward and deliver the best in NHS care. 

Blackpool Victoria Hospital is currently in the development and construction phase of the new Emergency Village which will open in Summer 2022. within the Emergency Village there will be a brand new SDEC unit  The post holder will be an integral part of the team and of the service provision. 

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post holder will need to be clinically focused and deliver outstanding evidenced based care to our patients. The post holder will clerk patients, plan and assess their care and then work within the larger team to discharge within agreed pathways. 

The acute Surgical services are delivered across 2 areas; the SAU department which is a 17 bedded unit treating all range of surgical,urology, gynaecological and ENT presentations, and  our ambulatory service which is currently undergoing development into an SDEC. The post holder will be responsible for deliver care and treatment in both of these areas as patient demands change.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be an independent practitioner working within the larger multi-disciplinary team (MDT). The MDT consists of the nursing, medical, pharmacy and IAT among others. The main responsibilities will be to direct patient care and treatment to ensure excellent services are provided to the patients. A large element of the role is service improvement and quality improvement initiatives to advance (s) our services forward. The post holder will be comfortable with change management and have a proven record of service development and or redesign within their portfolio.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • NMC registered , RGN first level nurse, MSc in Advanced Practise
  • Relevant nursing/health Degree
  • Teaching & Assessing qualification
  • Significant post registration experience
  • Mentor/teaching qualification
  • Qualified Non-Medical Prescriber
Desirable criteria
  • Management Qualification
  • Leadership course

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration experience in the speciality (Minimum of 5 years)
  • Clinical credibility – regarded as a successful clinician by peers or supervisors
  • Experience of managing own case load, including the assessment of patients, ordering diagnostics
  • Understanding of the role of research and development activities in relevant setting and upon Clinical Effectiveness
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of the current issues affecting the preoperative assessment service including Clinical Governance and the NHS Plan
  • Development of protocols and clinical guidelines
  • Leadership in quality initiatives such as clinical benchmarking
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and presenting lectures to staff
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in completing and presenting research
  • Experience of presenting at conferences
