Job overview

This is a seconded post to open a winter escalation ward with 11 escalation overnight beds and an admissions and discharge lounge which will close each evening.  Patients will arrive from either Blackpool Teaching Hospital or step up from the community.  The patients will be a variety of complex elderly patients who require rehabilitation or complex discharge planning.  The ward will be a fast pace due to admitting patients and transferring them to the wards within Clifton Hospital.   

Main duties of the job

As the ward manager you will be expected to deliver a high standard of care to all the patients who will be cared for by competent staff who have had the appropriate training and development.  You will be expected to ensure the skill mix is safe on each shift and monitor the budget.  The ward will be audited against the CQC standards and you will be expected to lead the team to deliver on these standards.  We are looking for a dedicated, caring nurse who is able to perform well under pressure and remains positive.

Clifton Hospital is a community hospital based in St Annes and comprises of 4 nurse therapy led wards.  The staff are very friendly and support each other.  Professional development is offered to all staff as well as an annual appraisal.  

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To manage the ward safely and effectively by having a skilled team of staff who are able to care for patients compassionately and competently.   To lead the team to ensure the patients are looked after to a high standard and are safely transferred in a timely manner.  To monitor the ward against audits which include infection prevention, documentation, and patient satisfaction.
